The family of the late Obaa Yaa Afrifa, wife of former Head of State Lt. Gen. Akwasi Amankwah Afrifa, has formally notified former President John Agyekum Kufuor of her passing during a courtesy visit.
Obaa Yaa Afrifa, born in 1934, passed away in December 2025 at the age of 91.
During the visit on Tuesday, the family expressed gratitude to the former president for his warm reception and pledged their support as they prepare for her funeral.
Leading the delegation, Opanin Kwadwo Ofori Boadu thanked H.E. Kufuor for his readiness to stand with the family and appealed to the public to join them in honoring her memory. The funeral is scheduled for Saturday, January 24, 2025, at the Teshie-Nungua United Church.
Former President Kufuor extended his condolences and assured the family of his support for a dignified farewell.
The late Obaa Yaa Afrifa is remembered not only as the spouse of a former Head of State but also as a respected matriarch whose life witnessed significant moments in Ghana’s political history.
