There is a marginal improvement in the performance of Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the management of the Assemblies’ finances.

Irregularities in the management of the Assemblies’ Finances for 2017 showed a 41.67% fall of GH¢29,243,646.43 against 2016 figure of GH¢70,173,645.97.

was contained in the Auditor-General’s report on the accounts of assemblies for
the financial year ending December 31, 2017.

Though there was an improvement, the report said lapses and deficiencies were identified in transactions under account areas such as cash management, contract, procurement and store, and tax irregularities.

The Auditor-General, Mr Daniel Domelevo has, therefore, recommended to the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development to recover the amounts from the staff involved and sanction them appropriately, and also ensure strict monitoring and supervision over disbursements and accounting for assembly revenue, to forestall any future occurrence.
