It has emerged that the company which operated an abandoned quarry site at Peabo in the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipality of the Eastern region which exploded and killed many did not have license.

The former Municipal Chief Executive Mark Dompreh under whose watch the incident occurred revealed this on Fabewoso, a segment on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem to expose corrupt practices in the country.

He stated that, the quarry site had been abandoned thus though he lives just opposite the place had no knowledge AKY Mining Services were operating there.

On the 24th of December, 2015, there were heavy explosions on the site which created fear and panic in the area.

The blast from a quarry site belonging to A.K.Y Mining Services Limited along the Adeiso road occurred as a result of a naked fire getting into contact with ammonium dynamite.

The devastation caused many injuries while substantial properties were lost through the accident including a 38-year-old welder, Ibrahim Mohammed, who met his untimely death when he was caught in one of those explosions.

Almost two years after the explosion, the victims are yet to be compensated and those found culpable by a Ministerial Committee are still walk scot-free.

But Mr. Dompreh whose house collapsed during the blast expressed shock at the development recommended assembly staff found culpable is prosecuted.

Captain Smart, host of the show also disclosed the police, the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Coordinator Director, Minerals Commission who appeared before the Committee denied any wrong doing.
