Extend ORAL’s mandate to expose more corrupt deals – Mahama urged

A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Novihoho Afaglo, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to extend the mandate of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team to further investigate and expose cases of corruption involving officials from the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

Mr. Afaglo commended the collaborative efforts of ORAL and the Attorney-General’s Department, describing their work as crucial in uncovering alleged financial irregularities and the misuse of public funds meant for national development.

He asserted that without the vigilance of ORAL, “Nana Akufo-Addo’s appointees could have stolen millions from the state unnoticed,” adding that the investigations initiated under President Mahama’s leadership have revealed significant wrongdoing that must be addressed.

According to him, the ongoing revelations by ORAL and the Attorney-General should serve as a wake-up call to public officials currently in office.

“The work of ORAL and the significant corruption being uncovered should serve as a warning to current government officials, reminding them that their positions are meant to improve the lives of the people, not deny them their economic rights,” Mr. Afaglo said.

He urged President Mahama to give ORAL more room to continue its investigations and ensure that all individuals found culpable face justice.

“President Mahama should extend ORAL’s efforts to uncover more corrupt activities of former officials and allow the law to take its course,” he added.

Mr. Afaglo further encouraged citizens to back the President, the Attorney-General, and the ORAL task force in their fight against corruption.

In a strong rebuke of the former administration, he stated: “President Mahama will not act as a clearing agent like Nana Akufo-Addo, who has cleared his appointees when they are accused of corruption.”

He reiterated that the Mahama administration remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the prudent management of state resources for the benefit of all Ghanaians.
