Former Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif is expected to appear before Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee on Thursday to answer questions over expenditure linked to Ghana’s hosting of the 2023 African Games.
The committee is investigating spending on the tournament after a forensic audit by the Ghana Audit Service flagged financial irregularities and procurement breaches worth more than GH¢580 million.
Ussif, who served as Sports Minister during the Games, is expected to explain the ministry’s role in the procurement and expenditure processes.
His appearance comes a day after the committee heard from Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams and former Local Organising Committee (LOC) Executive Chairman Dr Kwaku Ofosu-Asare.
Ofosu-Asare told lawmakers that the LOC was not responsible for procurement, insisting the process was handled by the Ministry of Sports.
The committee is expected to continue its inquiry as it seeks further clarity on the spending decisions and procurement procedures surrounding the 2023 African Games.
