The former Public Relations Manager of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku, has rejected recent allegations made by The Fourth Estate and its Executive Director, Sulemana Briamah, describing their publication on the NLA–KGL partnership as misleading and lacking professionalism.
In a statement, Dr. Opoku clarified that Keed Ghana Limited and KGL Technology Limited are two distinct companies, contrary to what was suggested in The Fourth Estate’s report.
He explained that Keed Ghana Limited was fined ten million Ghana cedis by the NLA for piloting its *959# lottery platform without securing the appropriate 5/90 Online Lottery License Agreement.
According to him, the fine was lawfully imposed and rightfully paid, after which KGL Technology Limited took over operations from Keed Ghana Limited. Dr. Opoku described this transition as both transparent and legitimate.
He further challenged The Fourth Estate and its editor to clarify issues surrounding other companies alleged to have operated online lottery platforms without authorisation.
He questioned how much Alpha Lotto Limited paid to the NLA after operating the 5/90 lottery via *896# for nearly a year, how much Onassis Lotto paid for using *859# without a valid licence, and what penalties were imposed on operators of the website www.theb2blotto.com for running a similar service unlawfully.
Dr. Opoku argued that providing answers to these questions would reveal what he called the “selective and unbalanced nature” of The Fourth Estate’s investigation into the NLA–KGL partnership.
He humorously remarked that “the agenda by The Fourth Estate and Sulemana Briamah is not agending,” implying that their efforts to undermine the partnership had failed to achieve their intended purpose.
Dr. Opoku reaffirmed that the collaboration between the NLA and KGL Technology Limited has been beneficial, helping to modernise Ghana’s lottery industry and increase revenue for the state.
He indicated that the publication by The Fourth Estate was based on factual errors and flawed assumptions that do not reflect the reality of the NLA’s operations.
