The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, has renewed calls for swift and concrete action to make public spaces accessible to Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), years after legislation was passed to guarantee their unhindered access.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Aubynn expressed concern that despite the passage of disability-friendly laws, very little has been done to implement them meaningfully.
She stressed that many public buildings and facilities remain inaccessible, creating barriers that continue to limit the mobility and opportunities of PWDs across the country.
The MP further urged Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to stop diverting funds allocated for PWDs and instead increase support through their Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to address the pressing challenges faced by the disability community.
She emphasized that ensuring accessibility and economic empowerment for PWDs must be a national priority, not an afterthought.
