Former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has remembered the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, as a man of remarkable versatility and disarming charm.
He said he was the kind of person with whom it was impossible to quarrel, even in moments of disagreement.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, in the wake of the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed Dr. Boamah’s life alongside seven others, the former Suame MP described his late friend as “a man of great versatility.”
The former Parliamentary Minister said the former Defence Minister’s personality left a mark on everyone who encountered him.
“Dr. Omane Boamah, I knew personally. He has a very versatile personality, is a medical officer, a former minister responsible for government communications, and was in charge of defence for the country. That indicates to anybody assessing him that he is a man of great versatility,” he said.
Recalling their rapport, the former Majority Leader said their interactions were always warm and light-hearted.
“We’ve known each other for quite some time now, ever since he came into the political limelight, and we have been having conversations on occasion. Anytime that we bump into each other, it’s always a joke that we share.”
He said Dr. Boamah had a rare gift for defusing tension, even in heated debates.
“He’s one person that even when you disagree with, you can’t pick up a quarrel with him, because he will end up making a joke of it, even if it is a big issue, and lighten the conversation. That was Dr. Omane Boamah for me.”
