The Minister of Energy, John Abdulai Jinapor, paid a working visit to the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) Energy Meter Testing Laboratory, accompanied by the Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, Ms. Adwoa Serwaa Bondzie, and other Ministry officials.
During the visit, the Minister observed firsthand the rigorous processes that ensure the accuracy, safety, and reliability of energy meters used across Ghana.

He praised the technical team for their professionalism and attention to detail, noting that quality standards are not merely technical requirements but the foundation of trust between consumers and utility companies.
“Strong collaboration between our institutions is vital to safeguard consumers and build confidence in our energy systems,” Jinapor said.

The visit comes shortly after the Minister joined key stakeholders in commissioning MBH Power Ghana Ltd.’s Meter Manufacturing Facility in Tema, which has the capacity to produce 750,000 smart meters annually.

The facility is part of the government’s strategy to source electricity meters locally, reducing reliance on imports and strengthening domestic industry.
“Metering plays a critical role in the electricity supply chain. For many years, we have depended heavily on imported meters, so promoting local manufacturing is essential for reliability, job creation, and industry growth,” the Minister said.
He added that strategic partnerships with credible private investors, like MBH Power, are key to achieving a resilient, self-sustaining energy sector.
“We cannot achieve our energy objectives alone,” Jinapor said, emphasizing that collaboration, innovation, and local production are central to Ghana’s energy future.
