Ejura MCE seeks intervention to complete Astro Turf project

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejura Sekyedumase, Rafiu Adam Seidu, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and ensure the completion of the stalled astro turf project at the Ejura Public Park.

The project, which began under the previous NPP administration, has been abandoned, leaving the park in a deplorable state.

According to the MCE, the once vibrant playing field has become barren and unusable, affecting sports development and youth talent nurturing in the area.

Mr. Seidu explained that both the assembly and the Member of Parliament for the area have engaged the contractor, who confirmed that Ghana Gas is financing the project. However, work has yet to resume.

“Yes, they gave it to a contractor. Myself and my Member of Parliament went to Ghana Gas, who is the source of funding, but when are they coming?” he quizzed.

Speaking during an inter-community soccer tournament to select Under-17 players to represent Ejura in the upcoming Inter-District Soccer Competition organized by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Seidu highlighted the municipality’s sporting potential.

“There is a lot of potential in Ejura. Currently, we have four people from Ejura who are playing in national and international teams; they started from this pitch [Public Park].

“Our brothers in the NPP started the astro turf last year but couldn’t finish. Now that President John Dramani Mahama has taken over, we are appealing to the government to help complete this astro turf so that we can develop the potential of our youth through sports,” he stated.

When completed, the Ejura Astro Turf is expected to serve as a major sports hub for the municipality and nearby communities.
