Ghanaian musician Efya has called for the country’s age of consent to be raised above 16 to better protect minors.
Her comment, posted on X (formerly Twitter), comes in the wake of a viral video showing Charles Akwasi Aidoo, Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of KNUST Senior High School, in a compromising situation with a female student.
“The age of consent in Ghana must be raised above 16 to better protect minors,” she posted.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has since dismissed Mr. Aidoo from his position, while the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection says it is collaborating with the police to ensure justice in the matter.
