The Presiding Member and members of the Effutu Municipal Assembly have condemned threats allegedly made by Chief Sofo Azorka, First Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), against the Minority Leader and MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
In a statement signed by Presiding Member Yakubu Quansah, the Assembly described the threats as reckless and a danger to Ghana’s democratic process.
“Threats of violence undermine peace, intimidate public officials, and erode trust in our democratic institutions. As a champion of peace, development, and parliamentary excellence, Osahehn Alexander Afenyo-Markin deserves respect and protection,” the statement read.
The Assembly called on the Ghana Police Service to investigate the matter and take appropriate legal action to prevent similar incidents.
It also appealed to political leaders and their supporters to uphold tolerance, decency, and peaceful engagement during the ongoing Akwatia by-election.
