Effutu: Five Assembly Members injured in public toilet dispute

Five assembly members in the Effutu Municipality of the Central Region are reportedly receiving medical treatment after sustaining injuries during a scuffle over the management of public toilet facilities.

According to the affected assembly members, the incident occurred on Monday when some alleged party foot soldiers entered their respective electoral areas and demanded access to the keys to public toilets.

Speaking at a press briefing following the incident, the leader of the Effutu Assembly Members, William De-Carthia—who sustained cutlass wounds during the confrontation—described the incident as unfortunate.

He called for calm and urged relevant authorities to intervene to prevent similar occurrences.

De-Carthia noted that tensions have been building over the control of public facilities and called for structured dialogue and cooperation among stakeholders to resolve the matter peacefully.

In a related development, a local communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Effutu, Ellis Otabil, urged community representatives to remain vigilant in the face of any further confrontations.

He also advised that steps be taken to avoid escalation and to protect other public facilities such as community libraries and centers.

Community members have since called for collaborative approaches to managing public facilities to promote unity and ensure services remain accessible to all.
