The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has held a high-level meeting with key stakeholders to review and finalise the proposed allocation formula for the 2026 GETFund Allocation Framework.

The meeting brought together the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak; the Chair of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education; the Administrator of GETFund, Paul Adjei; and senior officials of the Ministry.

Discussions centred on shaping a revised framework aimed at improving the distribution and management of education funding.

A statement signed by the Minister’s Press Secretary, Hashmin Mohammed, explained that the 2026 formula signals the start of a broader reform process intended to reset and fully operationalise a new allocation structure.

The framework is designed to align with President John Dramani Mahama’s policy direction while enhancing efficiency, equity and accountability in education financing.

The proposed formula places emphasis on transparency and fairness in the distribution of resources, ensuring that funding decisions reflect national education priorities.

“A key feature of the new framework is the introduction of a dedicated funding stream for Special Needs Education and disability support services across the country,” the statement added.

The framework also incorporates government’s commitment to complete and fully equip the KNUST Teaching Hospital, in line with a pledge made by President Mahama to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The facility is expected to strengthen healthcare training and improve service delivery.

The Minister expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the deliberations, noting that broad agreement had been reached among stakeholders on the direction of the reforms. The proposed formula is expected to be presented before Parliament for consideration.

The engagement reflects ongoing collaboration between the Ministry of Education, Parliament and GETFund as government advances reforms within the education sector.
