Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has reiterated government’s resolve to implement the free Senior High School (SHS) policy in September, 2017.
According to him, the economy is in good shape for the implementation insisting that the Akufo-Addo administration’s determination to roll out the governing party’s campaign policy in the next two months.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh also known as Napo gave the assurance while addressing a news conference outlining details of the implantation in Accra.
Even before the policy is rolled out, a leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Defense Minister Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor is urging caution in the implementation.
He stated that, hasty introduction of the education policy could negatively affect the quality of education and create setbacks.
But the Education Minister said concerns of Dr. Addo Kufuor has been taken in good faith.
He indicated that, they are not oblivious of the obstacles ahead but have put in place adequate measures to surmount the challenges.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh maintained that concerns being raised about the source and sustainability of funding for the ambitious programme.
The Education Minister added that, government intends to construct 42 model schools to improve access across the country.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh was optimistic the free SHS programme will be rolled out successfully.

  1. Before and upon assuming power, we were told the economy has collapsed. All of a sudden, some NPP ministers are telling Ghanaians that the economy is in good shape. Are they magicians to fix an economy in 6 months? USA, despite its wealth hasn’t been able to fix its economy since the world economic crisis. Is either Mr Mahama built a strong foundation for the economy to take off smoothly which you denied him the credit? or you lied about the state of the economy upon assuming power or you people are magicians?
