The Electricity Company of Ghana has announced a GH¢240 million infrastructure upgrade project to improve power supply reliability across parts of Accra.

The initiative includes a GH¢34 million investment for the installation of two transformers and system upgrades at the Nmai-Dzor substation, according to the General Manager of Sub-Transmission Substations in Accra, Francis Kofi Atsyatsya.

The broader project will involve the replacement and upgrade of 12 power transformers across six primary substations in Adenta, La, Teshie-Nungua, Nmai-Dzor, Baatsonaa, and Lashibi.

Mr Atsyatsya indicated that about 40 percent of the work has already been completed, with the next phase set to begin after the decommissioning of existing equipment.

The first phase of the upgrade is scheduled to run from April 8 to April 10, 2026, during which planned power outages are expected.

Acting Director of Communications at ECG, Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, said the project has received approval from the Energy Ministry and apologised for the inconvenience, assuring the public of improved and more stable electricity supply upon completion.
