The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the printing of ballot papers for the Akwatia parliamentary by-election will begin on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
The announcement followed a high-level meeting convened today by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) with representatives of political parties.
The meeting focused on preventive measures against electoral violence and key security strategies for the by-election.
The by-election was triggered by the passing of Akwatia’s Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who died in July 2025. His death created a vacancy in Parliament, necessitating the polls.
During Tuesday’s session, the IGP assured political parties of the Police Service’s readiness to maintain peace and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
