EC sets September 30 for Tamale Central by-election

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that a by-election will be held in the Tamale Central Constituency on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, following the death of the Member of Parliament, Murtala Muhammed Ibrahim.

In a statement signed by Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa, the Commission said the vacancy triggers a by-election in line with Article 112 (5) of the Constitution.

Nominations from prospective candidates will be received at the Tamale Metropolitan Office from Monday, September 8 to Wednesday, September 10, 2025, between 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm daily. Forms can be downloaded from the EC website between August 19 and September 10, and must be submitted personally or via a proposer or seconder.

Each nomination must be endorsed by two registered voters as proposer and seconder, with an additional 18 voters assenting. Candidates must also provide two passport-sized photographs against a red background, showing the full face and ears.

The filing fee is set at GHC 10,000 per candidate, while female candidates and persons with disabilities will pay a reduced fee of GHC 7,500. All forms must be submitted in quadruplicate.

The Commission urged the public and interested aspirants to take note and adhere to the guidelines.
