The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has announced that the government will undertake a full reconstruction of sections of the Eastern Corridor Road using asphalt pavement instead of continuing with patch repairs on the existing surface-dressed road.

According to the Minister, technical assessments showed that the road has outlived its design life, making a complete reconstruction the most effective and sustainable solution after years without major rehabilitation.

Mr Agbodza made the announcement during an inspection of the 46-kilometre Dodo Pepesu–Nkwanta–Dambai Road rehabilitation project, which is being executed by Growth 82 Global Limited as part of his nationwide tour of road projects.

He explained that the project involves replacing the road base where necessary before applying an asphalt surface, a process designed to deliver a more durable road than the existing surface dressing.

The Minister said the reconstruction is expected to improve safety, strengthen transport links along the Eastern Corridor and reduce the recurring costs of maintenance and spot repairs.

“We are changing the road base, applying the prime coat before laying the final asphalt surface. This is not a repair of the existing surface dressing. We do not have enough time, and the contractor must work much quicker than this,” he said.

Mr Agbodza also urged the contractor to speed up work to ensure the project is completed on schedule, reaffirming the government’s commitment to delivering a resilient road network that supports economic activity and enhances mobility along the corridor.
