The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has appeared before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) over an alleged GH¢4 million bribe attempt.
Mr. Kotey recently revealed that he was offered the bribe by influential individuals seeking to halt the implementation of the new Digitalised Vehicle Registration Plate (DP) policy. The initiative is aimed at reducing vehicle-related fraud and enhancing road safety nationwide.
The OSP confirmed that the DVLA boss was invited to assist with investigations into the alleged offer, with the office seeking to verify the circumstances and identify those involved. Accra-based Citi News reports that the questioning is ongoing, with details yet to be released.
In a separate probe, the OSP has also launched an investigation into a sitting member of the Council of State over suspected corruption linked to gold trading. Sources say the investigation centers on allegations that the official may have exploited his position to influence the granting of a gold licence to a company in which he allegedly holds undisclosed interests.
