The body of a 7-year-old boy who was swept away by flood waters last Saturday at Abrepo Bronikrom in the Bantama constituency has been found at Atwima Akropong in the Atwima Nwabiagya district after five days.
The tragic incident sparked intense search efforts in the community but proved futile.
The boy was among three children bathing in the rainwater when one of their slippers was swept away. In an attempt to retrieve the slipper, the boy, known only as Kwame, was carried away by the flood in the gutter.
Speaking to Wayomi, a member of the search team, expressed surprise at the distance the body was found.
“We are really surprised because we didn’t know that the body will go that far,” Wayomi disclosed.
In an interview with Adom news, Wayomi said the body has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for an autopsy.
The search team is now awaiting the release of the body by KATH authorities to proceed with burial arrangements.
The discovery of the body has brought a mix of grief and closure to Kwame’s family and the community involved in the search efforts.
