The Kaneshie District Court One has granted bail in the sum of GH¢70,000 with two sureties to a driver who allegedly knocked down and killed a pedestrian.
The plea of the accused, John Takyi, was not taken as a copy of the case docket has been forwarded to the Attorney General’s office for advice.
Takyi is facing charges of careless and inconsiderate driving, as well as negligently causing harm.
The court has ordered him to reappear on June 25, 2025.
Presenting the facts, Police Chief Inspector Achana Apewah said that on May 10, 2025, at about 7:30 p.m., Takyi, who was driving a Kia Sorento with registration number GR 2926-21, reported himself to the police.
He told officers that he was driving from Odorkor towards Mallam on the Dr. K.A. Busia Highway when he knocked down a pedestrian, identified as Kojo Andoh, aged about 50, who was crossing the road near the Odorkor Water Works area.
According to the prosecution, Andoh was rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the medical officer on duty.
His body was deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Following investigations, Takyi was charged with the relevant offences and brought before the court.
