The National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has announced the recruitment of 4,460 new personnel to support road infrastructure development across the country.
Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM on Friday, June 27, Mr. Vanderpuye stated that each district now has a dedicated team of 17 individuals—comprising one coordinator and 16 equipment operators—to drive the implementation of DRIP, which focuses on rehabilitating roads in underserved communities.
He disclosed that all recruits are undergoing rigorous training to ensure the safe and efficient handling of heavy-duty equipment.
“Some of the people who were previously operating the machinery lacked adequate training,” he said. “There’s a lot to learn when managing equipment like tipper trucks. We want to get it right this time.”
Currently, regional coordinators are receiving orientation in Ada, with district coordinators scheduled to follow. In addition, all equipment operators nationwide will receive practical, hands-on training to build their capacity for the role.
Mr. Vanderpuye also revealed that President John Dramani Mahama has assured the team of a formal employment warrant. This would allow the recruits to be absorbed into the local government structure as official staff of the various district assemblies, enabling them to deliver effectively at the grassroots level.
The District Road Improvement Programme is a key part of the government’s plan to enhance rural connectivity, reduce transportation challenges, and promote economic development through improved infrastructure.
