The Dormaa West Environmental Department has confiscated and destroyed quantities of expired food products and drinks seized from shops in Nkrankwanta.

The exercise forms part of the department’s efforts to protect consumers and safeguard public health by removing expired and potentially unsafe products from the market.

During the monitoring exercise, officers inspected shops and checked food and beverage products to identify items that had passed their expiry dates and could pose health risks to unsuspecting consumers.

Speaking during the exercise, the District Environmental Officer, Boadu Edmoud, cautioned shop owners against selling expired food, drinks and other consumable products to the public.

He urged traders to regularly check their stock, properly separate expired products and ensure that such items do not find their way into the hands of consumers.

Mr Edmoud also advised members of the public to check expiry dates, packaging and the general condition of food and drinks before purchasing or consuming them.

He emphasised that consuming expired or unsafe products could endanger human health and urged residents to take food safety seriously.

The Environmental Department said similar monitoring exercises would continue in communities across the Dormaa West District to ensure expired and potentially unsafe products are removed from circulation and prevented from being sold to the public.
