The Black Queens of Ghana have sealed qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) following a dominant 7–0 aggregate victory in the final qualifying round.
Ghana, who won bronze at the 2025 edition, took full control of the tie after claiming a 3–0 win in the first leg in Ismailia last week, thanks to a hat-trick from Doris Boaduwaa and a maiden international goal from Comfort Yeboah.
Their preparations for the return leg at the Accra Sports Stadium, however, were overshadowed by controversy after reports emerged that the team had refused to train over unpaid bonuses.
The players skipped training on Saturday and Sunday but eventually returned to the pitch after an intervention from Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams and Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku.
Despite a goalless first half, the Queens came alive after the break. Boaduwaa opened the scoring in the 52nd minute before doubling her tally three minutes later.
Yeboah added her second goal in national colours in the 57th minute, and Boaduwaa completed her hat-trick in stoppage time to round off a resounding 4–0 win on the day.
The victory confirms Ghana’s qualification for consecutive WAFCON tournaments. The team will now await the group stage draw for the 2026 finals, scheduled to take place in Morocco.
A semifinal finish at the continental showpiece would also guarantee the Black Queens a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
