The General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Joshua Ansah, has urged workers across the country to remain united in their quest for fair wages, improved working conditions, and stronger social protection.
Addressing the 14th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Maritime and Dockworkers Union (MDU) in Winneba, Mr. Ansah emphasized that disunity among workers weakens their ability to demand their rights and exposes them to exploitation.
“In today’s challenging economic environment, brothers and sisters, it is more crucial than ever that we stand together, united in our pursuit of fair wages, decent working conditions, and social protection for all,” he said.
Mr. Ansah reaffirmed the TUC’s unwavering support for the MDU in its ongoing efforts to promote the welfare and rights of its members.
The conference also marked a turning point for the union, officially ending a five-year internal leadership dispute that had severely disrupted the MDU’s operations and stalled important initiatives.
With the matter resolved, delegates gathered in Winneba are now expected to elect new leaders to guide the union forward and restore its effectiveness.
