Nigerian Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy has sparked fresh online debate after sharing candid thoughts about his relationship with fans during a recent Instagram Live session.
Addressing criticisms about his attitude toward supporters, the “City Boys” hitmaker emphasized that no one is obliged to follow him or his music. He stressed that support should be voluntary, not driven by pressure or unrealistic expectations.
Burna Boy explained that he values genuine fans who appreciate both his music and artistic journey, rather than those who follow trends or feel entitled to his persona.
He added that if he were to gain new fans at this time, he would prefer supporters “that have money this period,” rather than those struggling yet still quick to criticize his actions.
The comments come shortly after he faced controversy for ejecting a concertgoer who was reportedly asleep during his performance.
While some defended the decision as necessary to maintain energy on stage, others deemed it excessive.
