Media Relations Officer at the Lands Ministry, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, has downplayed concerns over the duration taken to review the report on the proposed takeover of the Damang Mine by Engineers and Planners (E&P).

Speaking on JOYNEWS DESK on JoyNews, he stated that the focus of public discussion should not be on the time spent but rather on the quality, fairness, and credibility of the assessment, as well as the competence of the company being considered for the takeover.

He emphasized that if Engineers & Planners possess the required capacity and expertise to manage the operations, the time taken to review the report should not be a point of concern.

Schandorf explained that the Minister, being fully aware of the processes involved, was able to assess the report thoroughly and make an informed decision. Based on the findings, the Ministry has upheld the recommendation for Engineers & Planners to take over the Damang Mine, enabling the necessary processes to proceed.

He questioned the ongoing public debate over the review period, stressing that the focus should instead be on whether the conclusions reached are justified and verifiable.

“How long it takes to review a report should not matter; what matters is the substance, fairness, and competence behind the decision,” he added.
