The Majority Chief Whip, Nelson Rockson Dafeamekpor, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prepare for a re-run of the Kpandai parliamentary election, insisting the governing NDC has already hit the ground campaigning in the constituency.

Addressing journalists in Parliament, Dafeamekpor dismissed the Minority’s claims regarding the court ruling on the Kpandai seat, arguing that the NPP should focus on the real contest rather than “peddling falsehood.”

He noted that although Speaker Alban Bagbin has granted incumbent MP Matthew Nyindam a seven-day stay of execution, the NDC views the situation as a clear mandate to mobilise ahead of the re-run.

“We are here to set the record straight: they lost the matter, and they are dazed,” he said. “The battleground is in Kpandai, not in the foyer of Parliament. We, the NDC, are on the ground. We are working.”

Mr Dafeamekpor accused the NPP of remaining in Accra while the NDC intensifies its campaign in the constituency.

“As we speak, we are in Kpandai campaigning. They won’t go and campaign, and when they lose, they blame innocent people,” he added.

The pending re-run stems from a legal challenge to the 2024 Kpandai parliamentary results, a matter both parties have contested for months.

While the Speaker’s ruling temporarily halts the enforcement of the court decision, the Majority maintains that the political reality remains unchanged.

The NDC has already formally notified the NPP to prepare for a fresh contest, describing the re-run as inevitable “rain or shine.”
