Ghana Customs officials at the Takoradi Port have intercepted a large consignment of suspected illicit drugs concealed in two 40-foot containers at the Atlantic Terminal Services Limited terminal.
The seizure followed an intelligence-led operation after frontline officers noticed unusual packaging patterns during routine inspections and alerted management.
Acting on the information, Takoradi Sector Commander Walter Blankson ordered the containers to be placed under strict surveillance before being fully unstuffed.

The operation involved close collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission, National Security, the National Intelligence Bureau, the Food and Drugs Authority, and the declarant, Maxwell Boateng.

Customs officials uncovered an estimated 25 million tablets of suspected Tapentadol and Timaking hidden among cartons of ceiling fans, alongside thousands of undeclared electrical appliances.
The tablets have been forwarded to the Customs Chemist for laboratory analysis, while the remaining goods were transferred to the State Warehouse in Takoradi as investigations continue.
The declarant, Maxwell Boateng, is currently in the custody of the Narcotics Control Commission and is assisting authorities in identifying the owners of the containers.
Customs emphasized that the interception underscores the importance of vigilant frontline officers and strong interagency cooperation in safeguarding Ghana’s borders and public health.
