Former Ghana international Hans Adu Sarpei has expressed concerns over the Black Stars’ current squad, describing it as lacking confidence and experience.

Although Ghana has secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the team’s recent performances have been inconsistent, culminating in the dismissal of coach Otto Addo following consecutive defeats to Austria and Germany.

Sarpei, a member of Ghana’s historic 2010 World Cup squad, contrasted the current team with that generation, emphasising the difference in cohesion and leadership.

“Don’t compare the 2010 squad to this current one. They are two completely different teams,” he said.

“We had more confidence, more experience, and bigger personalities in the team than we do now. We had also played together for about three or four years before that World Cup.”

He noted that the present squad is dealing with several challenges, including frequent changes in personnel, coaching uncertainty, and the failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.

“Now it’s different. New players are coming in, there are issues involving the coaching situation and the players, and they didn’t go to the Nations Cup. There are so many things happening now, so it’s not easy for the players,” he added.

The Black Stars are scheduled to regroup in May and June for final preparatory matches against Mexico and Wales ahead of the World Cup, where they will face Panama, England, and Croatia in Group L, beginning on June 11 across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
