The 2024 presidential candidate of the People’s National Party (PNP), Janet Nabla, has called for the immediate removal of the head of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) over the challenges parents and students are facing in the ongoing Senior High School placement exercise.
According to her, the situation at the placement centres has exposed serious incompetence in the system and requires urgent action from the government.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Janet Nabla said she visited the placement centre on Thursday to assess the situation and was shocked by what she witnessed.
“I went there on Thursday to assess the situation, and it was terrible,” she said.
She described the head of the CSSPS as “super incompetent” and argued that he and officials working under him should be removed.
“The head of the CSSPS should be fired. I don’t know his name, but he is super incompetent. He and all his people working there must go,” she stated.
Janet Nabla further alleged that corruption was contributing to the difficulties surrounding the placement exercise, claiming that school placements were now being sold.
“It is sheer corruption that is why we’re going through these challenges. They are now selling the placement,” she alleged.
She questioned how some students could receive placements that, in her view, appeared inconsistent with their circumstances.
“How is someone who is not visually impaired getting school for the deaf?” she questioned.
Her comments come amid growing frustration among parents and students at placement centres as they seek assistance with unresolved CSSPS placement issues.
Some parents have been left stranded for hours while seeking changes to placements, with concerns ranging from the location of schools to programmes and courses assigned to their wards.
At the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Hall, where some placement-related services are being handled, the situation has also attracted criticism over delays and the quality of assistance being provided to parents and students.
Janet Nabla said her experience at the centre reflected what she described as wider administrative failures under the current government.
“When you go to GNAT hall, you will see the incompetence of the NDC. People just want to benefit,” she added.
