The Fumso Health Centre in the Adansi Asokwa District of the Ashanti Region is facing severe infrastructural and logistical challenges, prompting renewed calls for support and the relocation of the facility to a more suitable site.
The situation came to light during the donation of tables and chairs to the centre by the Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani, aimed at improving service delivery.
Speaking to Adom News, the Deputy Chief Physician Assistant at the Fumso Health Centre, Ellen Ackon, said the facility lacks basic furniture for both patients and staff, has inadequate admission rooms, and does not have a designated area for the disposal of placentas.
She added that the location of the health centre within the Fumso market poses serious challenges, particularly on market days when congestion makes movement and emergency response difficult.
According to her, although the community has made some donations to support the facility, the assistance is insufficient to address the numerous challenges confronting the centre. She therefore appealed for additional support and the relocation of the facility to enhance healthcare delivery.

Confirming the challenges, the Adansi Asokwa MP, Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani, clarified that the donated tables and chairs were provided by a private individual who was concerned about the condition of the health centre. He said the donation was meant to offer temporary relief while broader solutions are being explored.

Meanwhile, a Midwifery Officer at the facility, Joyce Arthur, noted that the Fumso Health Centre previously served as the main healthcare facility for several communities in the district, including New Edubiase.
However, she said the absence of key personnel, such as a laboratory technician, has discouraged many patients from accessing healthcare services. She also reiterated concerns about the facility’s location, stressing that overcrowding on market days makes it difficult to manage emergencies effectively.
