A group calling itself Concerned Youth of Asante is entreating residents of the Ashanti Region to live cordially with foreigners living and operating legal businesses in the region.
President of the group, Nana Agyenim Boateng, says such cordiality is necessary in promoting foreign investments in a bid to expand local economies.
“Ghanaians are known for their hospitable nature, and we are always ready to welcome foreigners with open hearts,” he said in a press statement.
“However, I advise all foreigners living in Ghana to abide by our laws, contributing positively to our societies and living in harmony with us,” Nana Agyenim Boateng added.
The plea comes ahead of planned demonstrations by some groups against some foreign nationals, especially Nigerians.
Already, security concerns have been raised over intentions of some individuals of the Igbo tribe in Nigeria to build a Kingdom in Ghana.
The group is entreating the country to treat the issue tactfully to maintain the cordial relationship between the two countries.
Nana Agyenim Boateng indicated, “Asanteman has always been a beacon of hospitality, welcoming foreigners and treating them with kindness. This tradition of warmth and acceptance makes the proposed demonstration unnecessary and unwelcomed.”
Meanwhile, the group has emphasized the need for all to live by the dictates of the Ghanaian constitution.
