sex

Having regular sex does more good for your body than you can probably imagine. Apart from deriving pleasure, rising hormones and the orgasms, frequent sexual intercourse can help you live longer too! Confused? Dr. Dawn Harper, in the book ‘Live Well to 101’ explains this and many more benefits of having regular intercourse.

1. It boosts immunity

Studies have observed that regular sex (more than twice a week) boosts the production of immunoglobin (IgA), which is an important antigen in the body which betters immunity and cellular development. It also protects the body against any kind of viral infection such as cold or cough. People who have lesser sex, have lesser antigens in their body so this is one reason to get hot and heavy!

2. Makes you fit

Sex burns calories. How many times have you heard of it? But do you know, more than the calorie burning, sex is actually a natural form of exercise which improves blood flow and your metabolic levels, ultimately helping in weight loss and overall health. So, the next time you decide to get busy, this may come handy to get a little more inspired.

3. Good for your heart

Now that you know regular sex improves the blood flow levels through the body, there is one more thing you should know. Engaging in regular sexual activity also makes a huge difference to your cardiovascular health. It can also cut down your risk of getting strokes. The science behind this? When you are sexually aroused, the heart beats faster than before, leading to a better functioning heart.

4. Reduces the risk of early dementia

Believe it or not, having regular sex boosts brain activity. Sex makes more blood flow through all parts of the body and this, in turn, boosts cell generation in the brain, cutting down any risk of developing early dementia or memory problems. An active and working brain makes you live longer too.

5. Cure for headaches

It is often said that having sex is also a remedy for getting rid of headaches. When you have sex, an important pain relieving hormone oxytocin is released in your body, which does a great job in reducing physical pain, stiffness or any swellings around the nerves, solving your headache too. It can also help you sleep better!

6. Uplifts your mood

Now this one needs no introduction, does it? Engaging in regular sexual intercourse promotes a positive body image, boosts your self-confidence levels which in turn make you happier and uplifts your mood. A happier, stress-free life equals prolonged living.

7. Protects men from prostate cancer

A study by an Australian-based university also observed the startling differences regular sex made in reducing the risk of developing prostate cancer in men aged over 50. Those who had more frequent sex (twice or thrice a week) recorded lesser symptoms of prostate cancer as compared to those who did not.
