The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced plans to launch a nationwide strike starting March 9, 2026, over the government’s failure to implement a long-promised unique salary structure for its members.

Speaking in red attire to signify frustration and resolve, Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe warned that the strike will proceed in full force if the government does not take immediate action.

The decision was reached on Thursday, February 19, 2026, during a meeting of CLOGSAG’s National Executive Council (NEC) to review stalled negotiations on the unique salary structure and improved conditions of service for civil and local government staff.

According to the NEC, efforts to secure a unique salary structure date back to 2019. Over the years, two separate Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) were signed, raising expectations that long-standing disparities would finally be addressed.

However, despite these agreements and repeated reminders to the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, there has been no meaningful response or action.

CLOGSAG leadership says the government has ignored its commitment to implement the new salary structure and revised conditions of service effective January 1, 2025. The NEC described this prolonged inaction as a sign that civil and local government workers are being taken for granted.

In response, the NEC resolved to embark on industrial action to press home its demands. The council further warned that if the government fails to honor the agreement, CLOGSAG members nationwide will withdraw their services starting March 9, 2026.

“Notice is hereby served,” the association declared, signaling a potential disruption to public administration if urgent steps are not taken to resolve the impasse.
