Gor Mahia F.C. head coach Charles Akonnor has declared his determination to win the Kenyan Premier League title this season while also mounting a strong challenge for the domestic FA Cup.

Appointed ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, the former Ghana international has enjoyed an impressive start with the Nairobi-based side.

After 20 matches, Gor Mahia lead the table with 43 points, six ahead of arch-rivals AFC Leopards.

In an interview with Graphic Sports, Akonnor expressed confidence in the progress made so far, describing the opening phase of his tenure as promising.

He credited the club’s management and stakeholders for fostering a supportive environment that has enabled the team to thrive.

“So far things are going on right, and we are targeting the league title and the FA Cup,” he said.

Akonnor believes the squad’s unity and momentum could be decisive in the pursuit of silverware, especially after last season’s disappointment.

Gor Mahia finished second behind Kenya Police F.C. — a setback the coach says has strengthened the team’s hunger for success.

Drawing on lessons from that campaign, the former Asante Kotoko SC and Accra Hearts of Oak tactician emphasised that discipline and consistency will be crucial as the title race gathers pace.

For Akonnor, winning multiple trophies would not only restore Gor Mahia’s dominance locally but also boost the club’s profile on the continental stage.

Meanwhile, he was named the SportPesa League Coach of the Month for January in recognition of his team’s strong performances.
