The Wa Area Church of Pentecost has denounced rising crime in the Upper West Region despite constant preaching by believers in Christ and the Islamic faithful.

Ghana is dominated by high percentage of Christians and the Church said it was worried that immoral and unacceptable behaviours continued to be pervasive.

Apostle Robert Kwabena Andoh, the Area Head, said it was deeply troubling the growing moral decadence and blamed the situation on unbridled promotion of material things at the expense of empowering people for spiritual growth.

He expressed the sentiment at the 25th anniversary of celebration of the church in Wa.

“Making ready a people prepared for the Lord” was the theme chosen for the event.

Apostle Andoh, urged his colleague pastors to go beyond preaching the gospel to set good example that would lead others to God.

He announced that proceeds from the celebration would be channelled into the construction of boreholes and schools in some communities.

“In collaboration with our sponsors, the proceeds from this celebration will be seed-money for the possible provision of boreholes at Gurumo, Kulkpong, Daffiama and Domwine andtwo small clinics at Grumbelle and Bonar communities”

“We have a school in Lawra, we have started one in Nadowli and we are looking forward to starting one [a school] in Wa soon,” he added.

Alhaji Tahiru Issaku Moomin, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), applauded the Church’s immense contribution to the spiritual, moral and physical empowerment of the people.

He encouraged Ghanaians to remain steadfast in their trust in God.

He added that they exhibited positive attitudes and behaviours which would lead to the building of peace and a united nation.

He reminded the church not only to focus on the Word of God but the socio-economic well-being of the people.
