A flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has urged delegates to choose bold and fearless leadership as the party prepares for its presidential primary in January 2026.
Speaking during his campaign tour in the Savannah Region, the Assin Central MP declared that if elected as the party’s presidential candidate, he would never concede defeat in a national election until every vote is counted and the Electoral Commission officially announces the results.
“If I were the presidential candidate, I would never accept defeat till the EC declared the last vote. We need bold men who can face the NDC head-on, else we will go back into opposition,” Mr Agyapong told party supporters.
Although he did not directly mention any names, political observers believe his remarks were aimed at Dr Mahamudu Bawumia — the NPP’s 2024 flagbearer and current contender — who conceded defeat to the NDC’s John Mahama before the official declaration of the 2024 election results.
Reaffirming his loyalty to the NPP, Mr Agyapong said his political journey has always been rooted in dedication to the party’s growth and success.
“The way I love NPP, I will never do anything to destroy it. From 1992, no one has sacrificed for NPP more than I have,” he said, receiving applause from supporters.
He also criticised fellow aspirants who, in his view, lack a clear message for delegates, stating that the party’s future depends on decisive and purposeful leadership.
“Anyone who comes with no campaign message but spends all his time talking during his campaign is wasting his time,” he added.
Kennedy Agyapong remains one of the top contenders in the NPP’s upcoming flagbearer race, which will take place on January 31, 2026.
