
The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Gbetanu Lawrence, has embarked on a familiarisation visit to Nkwanta South in the Oti region.
This visit comes amid rising tensions that have caused concern within the community and highlighted the urgent need for peacekeeping measures.
During his visit, Major General Gbetanu met with Oti Regional Minister John Kwadwo Gyapong and other security personnel to assess the situation firsthand.
His mission was not only to gather information but also to reassure the public of the army’s commitment to restoring peace and order.
He thanked the Nkwanta South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the assembly for their continued efforts with the military detachment in maintaining peace in the area.
A significant outcome of the visit was the announcement of the establishment of a military base in Dambai.
According to him, this strategic decision aims to enhance security and provide a rapid response team capable of addressing any future conflicts effectively.
He emphasized that the military presence would not only deter violence but also support law enforcement agencies.
The establishment of a military base in Dambai is expected to significantly restore confidence among the people of Nkwanta, paving the way for a more peaceful future.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Nkwanta South, Joseph Antwi Awal, expressed gratitude for the army’s intervention, noting that it demonstrates a proactive approach to conflict resolution and community safety.
He also urged the Chief of Army Staff to provide the detachment in Nkwanta with more vehicles and logistical support to enhance effective patrols and promote lasting peace in the area.
