The Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has officially commissioned the High Court in Goaso, Ahafo Region, in a move aimed at strengthening judicial services in the area.

Addressing judges, chiefs, lawyers, clergy, security personnel, and political leaders, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie explained that Goaso had long been the only regional capital in Ghana without a High Court.

“There was a need to establish one to serve the people and enhance judicial service,” he said.

Until the commissioning, residents of the region who required High Court services had to travel to other regions, facing numerous challenges along the way.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie also acknowledged the efforts of former Chief Justice Her Ladyship Sophia Akuffo, who in 2018/19 proposed the establishment of the Goaso High Court.

The court’s commissioning, initially expected in 2024, had been delayed until now due to unforeseen circumstances.

On behalf of the region, the Paramount Chief of Mim and Deputy President of the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, Okrofrobour Dr. Yaw Adjei, expressed gratitude for the initiative. He assured that the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs would support the judicial service to promote justice, peace, and stability.

He added, “It is our hope and prayer that the High Court commissioned in the region will be fair to all people and protect the court’s integrity for now and the future.”
