The Apersemakahene of Kenyasi No.1 in the Ahafo Region, Nana Yeboah Asuamah, has called on the Ghana Police Service to strictly enforce road safety laws to curb the growing menace of reckless motorbike riding in the Asutifi North District.
Speaking to Adom News during a send-off ceremony for the outgoing district police commander, Nana Yeboah Asuamah—on behalf of the chiefs—expressed concern over the increasing number of accidents caused by careless motorbike riders, both commercial and private, particularly in Kenyasi.
He noted that overspeeding and disregard for traffic regulations have led to numerous accidents, often resulting in fatalities and serious injuries to innocent residents.
He stressed that the only effective solution is for the police, under the leadership of the new district commander, to take decisive action by arresting and prosecuting offenders to serve as a deterrent.
Meanwhile, the outgoing Asutifi North District Police Commander, ASP Paul Ankan—who has been transferred to Shama in the Western Region—also urged his successor to prioritise efforts to address illegal mining activities.
In an interview with Sammy Asare, ASP Ankan said persistent encroachments by galamsey operators on Newmont Ahafo South Mine’s concessions continue to threaten peace and stability in the district.
He added that while he did his best during his tenure, the issue remains unresolved and requires firmer action from the incoming commander to protect the area and maintain law and order.
