Governance advocate Rev. Charles Owusu has joined scores of Ghanaians in mourning the sudden passing of Akwatia MP Ernest Yaw Kumi, describing his death as a painful loss to the nation.
“It is really painful. He was like a brother to me. I heard the news while at the bank and couldn’t hold back my tears. He was a true gem who respected and cared for others. He didn’t just live for himself; he lived for others. May he rest in peace,” Rev. Owusu said on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.
Berekum West MP Dickson Kyere Duah also expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy.
“Our seats are close to each other. It’s been heartbreaking for everyone. Even members of the opposition NDC have spoken highly of him. We sympathize deeply with his family.”
Abirem MP Charles Asuako Owiredu added: “He was a very bright person, and at just 40, this happens. Our constituencies are close, and he was always good to me. The country has lost a young leader who could have helped lift Ghana.”
The late Ernest Yaw Kumi, a first-term MP on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), died on Monday, July 7, after a brief illness.
His sudden passing has sent shockwaves through Parliament and beyond, especially as he was seen actively participating in legislative duties just a week ago.
Tributes continue to pour in from colleagues, constituents, and well-wishers, who remember him for his humility, dedication, and service to the people of Akwatia.
