Charles Akonnor appointed head coach of Gor Mahia FC

Former Ghana international and ex-Black Stars coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor, has been named the new head coach of Kenyan football giants Gor Mahia FC.

The 52-year-old tactician signed a two-year deal with the club ahead of the new season, marking his first coaching assignment outside Ghana.

Akonnor will be joined on the technical bench by compatriot Bismark Kobby-Mensah, who takes up the role of assistant coach, while Ben Owu has been appointed goalkeeper’s trainer.

“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Charles Akonnor from Ghana as our new Head Coach. The former Black Stars manager brings a wealth of experience as a seasoned tactician. Welcome to Mahia, Coach Akonnor,” the club posted on its official social media pages.

A seasoned figure in Ghanaian football, Akonnor has previously managed top local sides including Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC, and AshantiGold SC. His leadership of the Black Stars further adds to his extensive coaching résumé.

Gor Mahia, 20-time winners of the FKF Premier League, are banking on Akonnor’s international experience and tactical expertise to revive the club’s fortunes and lead a successful campaign in the upcoming CAF inter-club competitions.
