Catholic Knights group urges President Mahama to take decisive action against Galamsey

The Knights of St. John International and Ladies’ Auxiliary has called on the government to move beyond rhetoric and take decisive action against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

The group urged President Mahama to consider proposals put forward by the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, other religious bodies, civil society organizations, and academia, including the declaration of a state of emergency in heavily affected areas.

Major General William Edmund Adjei, Supreme Subordinate Commandery President of the Knights of St. John International, emphasized that the time for dialogue has passed and action is imperative.

“Where we have gotten to in the fight against galamsey, it is not a talk matter. It is action,” he stressed while speaking at the 12th Biennial Supreme Subordinate Convention in Kumasi.
