The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly has pledged to pay the contractor handling the long-abandoned Anafo Market project to ensure its completion by September 2025.
Cape Coast Mayor, George Justice Arthur, gave the assurance during a visit to the project site alongside officials from the assembly and the contractor.
He promised that traders who were relocated to make way for the reconstruction would be prioritised in the allocation of spaces once the market is completed.
“Those traders who were at the market before relocation will be considered first before others,” the Mayor assured.
Isaac Arthur, Managing Director of Fine Jobs Company Limited, the firm executing the project, told the media they are ready to meet the September 2025 deadline if the assembly settles outstanding payments following a review of cost variations.
The Anafo Market project, which has stalled for years, is expected to boost commercial activity and improve trading conditions in Cape Coast upon completion.
