The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening educational ties with Canada following a courtesy call from Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Myriam Montrat.
Mr. Iddrisu commended Canada for its consistent support toward Ghana’s development, particularly in the education sector.
“Canada’s dedication to poverty alleviation and education has been remarkable, and Ghana has greatly benefited from this partnership,” he said, urging stronger collaboration between higher institutions in both countries.
High Commissioner Montrat highlighted the importance of equipping young people with employable skills, noting that Canada has committed $30 million to competency-based training and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Ghana.
“Our focus is to support Ghana in developing a skilled workforce that can compete globally,” she emphasized.
The Minister welcomed the support and encouraged greater investment in both TVET and foundational learning.
“Strengthening technical education and laying a solid foundation for learning are key to Ghana’s educational transformation, and we look forward to deepening this partnership with Canada,” Hon. Iddrisu added.
