Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has described calls for the dismissal of Black Stars coach Otto Addo as premature.
The 48-year-old coach has recently faced criticism despite guiding Ghana to a draw and a win during the September international break of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
After securing back-to-back victories in March, the Black Stars were held to a 1-1 draw against Chad before edging Mali 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium in Matchdays 7 and 8.
Following these results, some fans, pundits, and football stakeholders have demanded Addo’s sack.
Sports Minister Kofi Adams, speaking to Citi FM, expressed disappointment with the team’s performances, while former Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, questioned Addo’s suitability to lead the team to the World Cup.
However, Sannie Daara, now a Senior CAF Media Officer, believes such calls are premature.
He argued that any decision regarding Addo’s future should wait until Ghana’s World Cup qualification fate is determined.
“Calling for Otto Addo’s sack now is too hasty. We should wait until the Black Stars’ World Cup qualification is decided,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.
Addo was rehired in March 2024 on a three-year deal, with an optional two-year extension.
Under his leadership, the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations but are expected to remain in charge as Ghana concludes its 2026 World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros next month.
