CAF increases prize money for 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in prize money for the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The winner of this year’s tournament will now take home USD 1 million—double the amount awarded in the previous edition. In total, the prize pool has been increased by 45%, reaching USD 3.475 million.

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe emphasized the organisation’s commitment to advancing the women’s game in Africa.

“CAF is continuing with its commitment to the development and growth of women’s football in Africa,” said Dr Patrice Motsepe.

“The 100% increase in the prize money for the winner of the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON Morocco 2024, and the 45% total increase in the prize money for this competition, should contribute to the increase of the salaries of women football players, coaches, and employees,” he added.

He also praised the rising standards and popularity of women’s football, adding that the upcoming WAFCON in Morocco is expected to be a major success and a testament to the bright future of African football.
