Bibiani GoldStars head coach Frimpong Manso has stressed the importance of thorough preparation as his side gears up for their maiden CAF Champions League campaign.
The Ghana Premier League champions have been drawn against Algerian giants Jeunesse Sportive de Kabylie (JSK) in the preliminary round of Africa’s premier inter-club competition.
Speaking to Graphic Sports, Manso admitted the draw was a tough one, describing JSK as an experienced side with a strong pedigree in continental football.
“Yes, it’s a very tough draw because JSK is a very strong side in the CAF Champions League. We need to plan and prepare very well,” he said.
“This is what we worked for by winning the league. Now we must prove that GoldStars can also compete at this level,” he added.
Before their clash with the Algerian outfit, the GoldStars will feature in the 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament, where they will test themselves against Asante Kotoko, Heart of Lions, and Hearts of Oak.
Manso expressed optimism that the competition, along with the upcoming Super Cup, will serve as vital build-up fixtures for his team’s continental challenge.
“The GHALCA Top 4 and the Super Cup will help us in our preparation towards our match with JSK. At the moment, we are looking at the first game,” the coach explained.
GoldStars will host JSK in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 19, before travelling for the decisive return leg in Algeria on September 26.
